What makes Trappist beers unique and special?
The Trappists are an order of Catholic monks that live life focused on prayer and work. Officially “Reformed Cistercians”, their familiar name derives from the founding of the order in the 17th century at La Trappe Abbey in Normandy, France.
Trappist Beer is only an Authentic Trappist Product if it is brewed according to three strict rules:
- Beer is produced within the abbey walls
- Production is supervised by the monks
- All proceeds go to supporting the Trappist order, with the excess given to charity
