SALT at Our Kaka‘ako invites you to its Lei Day Aloha celebration at The Barn, on May 6, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Enjoy Hawaiian entertainment, lei-making activities and the SALT at Our Kaka‘ako Prize Wheel. The Aloha-filled celebration is open to the public and free to attend!
The celebration will feature the following live performances:
10 a.m.: Hawaiian music favorite Kaniela Nakashima
11 a.m.: Halau Hula mai ka Pu`uwai a ka Mana`o under Kumu Hula Pam Divine
In addition to music and hula performances, you can try your hand at lei making at our Lei Making Station. Beautiful fresh blossoms will be available to make lei wristlets, while supplies last. You can also enter to spin the Prize Wheel to win a variety of prizes from SALT at Our Kaka‘ako merchants.
The first Lei Day was held on May 1, 1928, to honor the tradition of the lei, which appeared to be in decline. Since the inaugural lei competition was held on that day, the people of Hawai‘i have celebrated May Day as Lei Day.
Before, during and after the Lei Day Aloha celebration, extend your fun at SALT by grabbing a delicious meal with the ‘ohana at any of the center’s diverse restaurants and eateries. Plus, you can shop at our unique retailers for one-of-a-kind merchandise and services.
