You know SALT is home to a wide array of unique local merchants, but have you met Ki‘ikau Printers yet? A wahine and Native-Hawaiian owned family company, Ki’ikau Printers specializes in fine art printing. They have a passion to serve the thriving local art community here on the islands. Whether you’re an established artist or an emerging creative soul, Ki‘ikau Printers is ready to help you bring your work to life! Located on Level 2 at SALT.
Join us on Saturday and Sunday, 5/29 and 5/30, and create your very own paper Manuokū Bird for Our Kaka‘ako’s temporary community art installation! The paper art versions of Honolulu’s official bird will be displayed on the fence of The Barn at SALT at Our Kaka‘ako until 6/13.
On 5/29 & 5/30, create your bird at the activity tent at Kaloko‘eli Courtyard in front of The Flats at Pu‘unui and H-Mart Kaka‘ako. Keiki can also have fun making Manuokū finger puppets to take home.
OR craft your bird at home by visiting ourkakaako.com/manuoku to download the digital outlined print of the bird. Cut, fold and glue per the instructions and dedicate your bird to someone special in your life by writing an inspiring message on it. Don’t forget to drop off your bird at the activity tent for it to be displayed in The Barn!
Plus, on 5/29 at 11 a.m. listen to Talk Story speaker, Susan Scott, marine biologist and author of the book, “Hawai‘i’s White Tern, Manu-o-Kū, an Urban Seabird.” Please continue to wear a mask and social distance while at our center.
