The tree-to-bar chocolate at Lonohana crafted with beans from their 14-acre North Shore estate is impressive as well. Hawaii is the only state where cacao, coffee and vanilla grow. Lonohana opened their first retail location last year at SALT at Our Kaka’ako, a hip mixed use space that houses a collective of independent boutiques and businesses from high-end Vissla surf wear at Stoke House and botanical décor at Paiko to a full-service film photography shop at Treehouse. Unlike the bigger shopping centers, you’re likely to meet the owners at these mom-and-pop shops and you know your shopping dollars are helping to fund the Kamehameha Schools’ mission of educating Hawaiian children.
